Research shows that teaching is most effective when students are cognitively engaged with the material. This workshop will provide a chance for you to explore and practise two evidence-based teaching strategies, using questions and providing feedback to support student learning; key skills to ensure your teaching has the maximum impact.

Teaching with questions: Teaching can be more effective if you use questions more and lecture less. During this workshop, you will practise using questions to get students to actively learn and develop thinking skills.

Feedback habits: It's important for students to understand what good work looks like. Clearly stating the goals should be the first step in giving feedback. Effective feedback should include both positive and negative points, focusing on the process so that students can apply what they've learned to new problems. You will practise formulating short and clear feedback that students can use immediately.  

Based on research in learning sciences, this workshop offers practical methods that specifically address teaching challenges in higher education. A large part of the workshop will consist of hands-on practice of these techniques.
